This 21,400 sf structure is primarily a single story structure with a small 2400 sf second floor office area. The structure is framed with several different building materials ranging from standard cmu bearing walls atop bar joists, to curved tube steel beams and acoustical metal deck.
The roof beams above the second floor office area cantilever approximately 20 feet to carry the low roof below. These cantilevered beams allow for a large column-free open area on the main level.

 


Black Hills Business Development Center, Rapid City, SD

The construction and design team was selected for the Black Hills Business Development Center by a Design-Build competition. The budget was very tight, requiring a 40,000 SF building for $2.0 million.
This site-cast tilt-up building was the winner of the competition, beating out even pre-engineered metal buildings of the same size.


First Western Bank Gateway
Rapid City, SD

The First Western Bank Gateway is a 53,000 SF, three-story steel framed structure that includes office suites, meeting rooms, and a main level bank. The building features a large two-story open lobby/atrium and a cantilevered drive-up canopy. Construction was completed in March of 2006 at an approximate cost of $7 million.


Toyota of the Black Hills
Rapid City, SD

The 51,000 SF LEED silver rated Toyota dealership utilized site cast tilt-up concrete walls in the service, shop, and car was areas and metal stud walls in the sales areas. The majority of the structure is one story with the exception of a 6000 SF storage mezzanine.

The insulated tilt-up concrete panels played a large role in achieving a LEED silver rating by providing good wall insulation as well as allowing for recycled materials to be used in the concrete.


Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Multipurpose Addition, Rapid City, SD

New 6,400 seat arena adjoining the existing Civic Center. Project included large super trusses with 240 foot clear span, multiple levels, rigging grids for shows and related events, and driven pile foundations. The facility was designed with a large amount of flexibility to allow space to be adaptable to many distinctly different types of events.

 


Prairie Berry Winery, Hill City, SD

Nestled in the heart of the Black Hills, the Prairie Berry Winery is a 14,200 SF facility that includes a winery production area, winery bottling and bulk storage areas, retail space and a private second floor apartment. The original winery was designed and constructed as a fast track design/build project in 2004. A retail and storage addition was added in 2006.
