About The Project
The White Shield Community Center serves the East Segment of the Three Affiliated Tribes that make up the MHA Nation. The community center hous-es a full-size gymnasium, offices, golf simulators, a fitness room, aquatic fa-cilities, a movie theater, a nutrition bar, a commercial kitchen, and various other community spaces. The communal space is functional and flexible, accommodating all types of community activities.
An elevated running track cantilevering from the precast walls encircles the gymnasium. The precast walls are used for support around the entire perim-eter of the building, setting upon a conventional cast in place concrete foun-dation. The walls support both steel and glulam wood framing members in the mezzanine and roof levels. Several of the precast walls are segmented to mimic the look of curved walls and provide a smooth transition segment between the spaces. Glulam framing is also used on the front entry canopy.
