The renovation of the Floyd Fitzgerald Stadium in Rapid City included many major additions, such as the addition of a large canopy over the seating area ,a new press box, new restrooms, a new ticket booth and team store, a new concessions area, new risers and seating, and new dugouts.The new canopy was constructed with cantilevered steel beams over tube steel columns supported by concrete drilled piers. Structural obstructions for the spectators were eliminated by moving the supports for the canopy behind the seating. This column placement resulted in large cantilevered lengths for the canopy framing members.The canopy also included attachment locations for a tensioned cable system that supports safety netting around the field.
