About The Project
A new women’s correctional facility currently being constructed in Rapid City
will house up to 288 female offenders. This Level III security facility includes
buildings with medium and low security levels.
The campus currently under construction includes three housing units, a
program services building, a warehouse, and an administration building. An
additional building for mothers and their babies is currently in design. The
housing units have two stories of cells.
The project had a constrained budget for the scope of services to be provid-
ed, while all working within a tight timeline. The design team worked togeth-
er with the owner and construction manager to simplify project construction
as a means to control costs and to speed construction. Several options were
initially evaluated by the design team, allowing the owner to make informed
decisions at early stages in the project.
