About The Project
The Liberty Recreation Center serves both the military and civilians in the Box Elder Area as a multi-use fitness and recreation facility. The rec center features an indoor track, exercise equipment, two basketball courts, and dedicated childcare space, as well as space to be used for large events and military ceremonies.
The majority of the space was constructed using a pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) structure with a monosloped roof. The PEMB structure clear spans 175 feet, creating a large outward force at the foundation level. Tie beams in the foundation system resist this outward force. The remaining structure is constructed of conventional steel beams, columns, steel joists, and steel roof decking. The two structural systems were constructed inde-pendently to allow differential movements between the two systems.
The design team worked alongside the construction manager at risk to deliv-er this project on schedule and within budget in a time when material costs and availability created challenges that required creative solutions.
